Hire our facilities for your Christmas or summer event

Have you considered Golf Croquet for your next corporate event, or just a get together for networking opportunities? It’s a fun game that acts as a great team building exercise and with some healthy competition along the way. No prior experience is needed to enjoy the game. We manage the setup, will instruct you on how to play and approximately fifteen minutes later you’ll be on the lawn, hooping or hitting your opponent’s ball away. We will also have friendly and experienced helpers assisting you on the lawn if needed.

Our facilities are available for organisations and groups to play Golf Croquet from the
second week of November to April.

Our beautiful club is surrounded by trees and is just a 15-minute walk up from Wellington’s CBD or take it easy and catch the cable car to Salamanca Station. There is room for approximately 15 cars in the grounds and two-hour parking is available on Salamanca Road.

What you need

Please ask your group to wear flat and preferably closed-in-toed shoes – runners, sneakers are ideal. High heeled shoes are NOT to be worn. Shorts, trousers and leggings are more suitable than long skirts/dresses.

A planner to ensure you have made your own catering arrangements – please bring
your own food, drinks, plates, cutlery, serviettes, and plastic or paper cup holders. 

If you are not self-catering, you can hire caterers, food delivery, or bring in a food truck to our parking area. These options have all been successful for other groups in the past.

Music - you are welcome to bring along speakers/boombox if you want to enhance your group’s entertainment.

What we provide

Exclusive use of our clubhouse, equipment and 6 lawns (48 people).

A clubhouse (capacity of 50 people) with indoor seating, toilets, parking on the premises and nearby.

Kitchen with medium-sized fridge, microwave, hot plates and double oven. There's
room to set up our BBQ and a refreshment area in front of the clubhouse. 

A BBQ for hire ($50).

We can open the clubhouse earlier than your start time if you have caterers who
need early access. There is a fee of $40 for enabling early access.

Alcohol

Our club is not licenced to sell or provide alcohol. Hirers are welcome to provide their own refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and are responsible for all legal requirements including responsible care of their participants and guests. No bottles or glass items are allowed on the lawns, however plastic cups can be used.

Availability - your options

You can book your event with us from mid November to April at times and on days when there is no tournament or club play, up until 8 pm. We take a Christmas break and close for bookings on 20 December and are not available again until after Wellington Anniversary Day.

In the summer season, available times are usually as listed below, but please talk to our Bookings Co-ordinators about your preferences as there may be some flexibility.​​​​​​​

  • Wednesday 1.30 pm - 8 pm

  • Thursday 1.30 pm - 8 pm 

  • Friday 1.30 pm - 8 pm 

  • Saturday 4.30 pm - 8 pm

Hireage rates

The minimum amount of guests is 20.

Hirage rates are based on the number of people in your party. We offer a maximum time on the lawns of up to 4 hours including clean up.

Due to high demand, Fridays in November and December require a minimum amount of $1,000.00 and are usually booked well in advance.

Up to 4 hours, at $35 per person.

Payment required to hold booking dates

To secure a booking date, full payment is required. Kindly confirm the number of attendees before submitting the enquiry form. One invoice will be issued based on the confirmed number of attendees. We can hold the date for any group until they have confirmed their numbers; however, if payment is not received four weeks prior to the date, it will be made available to other groups. You will be notified of any potential changes to your booking.

Note: The club is not GST registered. We do not charge GST.

Cancellations

The club facilities are primarily for playing croquet. Therefore, the club will cancel in the event of heavy persistent rain and/or if the lawns are unusable. The deposit will be refunded in full if the club determines that the weather is unsuitable for play and the event cannot proceed, and an alternative suitable date for your function cannot be offered.

Should a hirer wish to cancel a booking 21 days or more prior to the reserved date, a full refund will be issued. For cancellations made within 20 days of the booked date, the deposit may not be refunded but could be transferred to another booking date. Please contact the Booking Coordinators at your earliest convenience to discuss alternative arrangements if circumstances change for your group.

Terms and Conditions

  • ​​​​​​​The croquet club has no formal rubbish collection and groups should ensure they leave the kitchen and clubhouse area clean and tidy, All rubbish must be removed from the premises and grounds. Please bring rubbish bags to take away your own rubbish.
  • No glass, bottles or crockery are to be taken onto the lawns.
  • Kelburn Croquet Club accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or injury to hirers of the club while using club facilities and the lawns.
  • Children under the age of 12 are not allowed on the croquet lawns or in the club rooms unless supervised by a non participating adult at all times.
  • Smoking or vaping is NOT permitted inside the Clubrooms, rain shelters, verandah or on the croquet lawns.
  • Full payment is required based on the number of attendees as provided on the enquiry form. If more people attend than expected, the Treasurer will invoice for the additional attendees.
  • Music – please be considerate of neighbours in regard to noise levels.
